Testing the new Wordpress iPhone app

Just a quick post to test the new version 2 of the WordPress for iPhone app I discovered today. So far so good! Nice to be able to deal with pages and comments as well as posts. The local drafts never worked properly for me on the old version but they seem to be fixed now.

This should give me a better chance of actually using WordPress and blogging things when I’m out and about. Will finally test a picture and then upload.

This is a picture of our cat sleeping; just to prove the feature works!

Useful Tips for the Unlocked iPhone #5

It’s been a while since I’ve had anything useful to add to my iPhone tips series. I just ran into a problem today that I thought worthy of mention.

Having got my iPhone working in the UK with T-Mobile’s data service, I returned today to the USA and put my T-Mobile US sim card back in. I had some problems getting the EDGE data service working again. Since last I used the T-Mobile US service the APN settings seemed to have changed. The following settings are now working for me:-

  • APN: epc.tmobile.com
  • User: (blank)
  • Password: (blank)

A second problem I had was that the “Cellular Data Network” tab had disappeared from my Network Settings page. The fix for that is to check in Cydia and UNINSTALL any APN fixes or T-Mobile/T-Zone bundles you may have installed. Then restart your iPhone and the tab should be back on the Network page. That worked for me just now!

I hope that proves helpful for anyone facing similar problems.

Interesting Unlocked iPhone Discovery

In preparation to use the QuickPWN tool to pwn my iphone, I just upgraded to the 2.0.2 software via iTunes. My phone was previously unlocked on 2.0.1 using a custom firmware generated using the Pwnage Tool from the iPhone Dev Team.

Imagine my surprise when, following the upgrade, my phone was still active and accepting my T-Mobile UK sim card. The Cydia Installer, Installer and related apps have been deleted, but other than that my iPhone is working unlocked! I’m going to leave it be for a while and see if this sticks. I hope so….

Here’s Stephen Triffitt, in full Frank Sinatra garb, forgetting (as usual) that he’s not the real thing!!!
Typical!

Useful Tips for the Unlocked iPhone #4: Vodafone GPRS settings

A friend of mine also recently got an unlocked iPhone. I posted recently with the fix to get I used to get his iPhone Voicemail button working. At the end of last week, he finally got around to signing up to an internet package from Vodafone UK. Needless to say, we had a few issues getting it to work properly.

In my original “Useful Tips for the Unlocked iPhone” post I linked to a page on the Carphone Warehouse website which has listings for mobile internet settings for all the UK carriers. Unfortunately we couldn’t get his iPhone to play using these settings. I did a quick search and found some alternate settings for various flavours of Vodafone internet service. The settings that worked for us were the ones for the Vodafone “Web service” rather than GPRS. They are:

  • APN: internet
  • Username: web
  • Password: web

Simple as that. Happy iPhone surfing Vodafone users….
