I was just reading, over at Monette.net, about their new range of instruments and mouthpieces. I can almost feel my wallet getting lighter…

I’ve just learned of the passing of Maynard Ferguson; the legendary Trumpet player. He died on Wednesday 23rd August 2006. He was 78.
Surprisingly, considering my approach to the Trumpet, my love for Maynard’s music developed quite late; only in the last 2 years or so. He has been an extraordinary influence on me as he has been on so many others.
Rest in peace Maynard. You will be missed…

I don’t know if anybody’s even reading this site these days but, if so, I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good trumpet cases?
It seems that I’ll be doing even more transatlantic travelling in the next few months and, with the new carry-on baggage restrictions now in force since the recent terror alert in the UK, I’ll likely have to check-in my Trumpet. Following my recent woes in this area, you may understand that I’m not too keen. Therefore, I’m looking for a really good hard-case that will protect my instruments in the airline hold.
I’ve checked out a couple of options on the internet, including Fanfare Caseworks. Does anyone have one of these cases or even have seen one close up? Also, any other recommendations or suggestions are welcome.

A bit late to it I know, but I ran across about the most sensible commentary on the recent UK terror threat I’ve heard yet. Check out “the show with zefrank: don’t be afraid“.

I was unable to get online for a few days last week while the tour took me to Austria. A couple of days in I connected my laptop to the internet via my mobile phone, just to catch up on my email.
Can I recommend that you don’t do this, unless you’re aware of the roaming charges for the service when abroad; I checked my mobile phone account online and found that I’d been charged £115(GBP) before VAT. Unfortunately, one of the emails had contained a set of attached photos which meant that I downloaded about 16MB of data. A nasty surprise to say the least.
It’s just another in the long list of ways that the mobile phone companies screw us over every day.
