Various Web-geekery.

Thought I’d mention a few things that I’ve come across on the Web during the last couple of days.

First up, I was pleased to notice that my friend and teacher Brian Lynch has had his website redesigned. The old site has been kicking around for a number of years and was, in fact, one of the first Jazz musicians’ sites that I started to follow. The new version is, therefore, very much a sight(/site) for sore eyes (please pardon the pun). I also forgot to mention Brian’s recently started ArtistShare Recording Project when it was announced a few weeks ago. He’s writing some new music for the Eddie Palmieri Afro-Cuban Jazz Octet which will also feature Phil Woods. It should be quite something when it’s done. The significance of ArtistShare is that the CD will be funded by donations from the record buying public. Check it out at brianlynch.artistshare.com.

The second thing is a new website that I’m involved in. On behalf of my friends and colleagues on the Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas European Tour, I’ve set up a group weblog; RatPackOnTour.co.uk. The idea is to allow tour members to post stories and photos about the goings-on on tour - it should also allow friends and family to keep up with those of us temporarily swanning around Europe!!!! It’s only just started so only a couple of us have signed up so far but hopefully it’ll take off. We’ll see.

I was very pleased to run across a new trailer for the forthcoming film adaptation of “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” which is due for release at the end of April. This is a film which has been in the works for many years, let’s hope it lives up to the book and encourages a new generation to discover the work of Douglas Adams for themselves.

Lastly, I’ve been working on the conversion of the Cat Pack website to run from a Wordpress install. From my end, all’s been fine and dandy, but I’ve had an isolated report of some strange behaviour from the site. Please visit TheCatPack.net and contact me if you run into any problems.

Bye for now…
