On The Move.

You’ll notice that I’ve switched, temporarily I might add, to the default “Kubrick” theme for this site. This is because I’m in the process of switching servers after my previous hosting company suspended my account without warning on Thursday. I have it temporarily accessible so I’ve been able to grab my Wordpress install and Database which has been a bonus – my previous backup is a few posts out of date.

Please bear with me for a couple of days. I hope to have everything back to normal just as soon as possible.

Update:

Have now moved all my files over from the old server but due to some kind of Stylesheet conflict, everything seems a little messed up. Have now switched the blog pages to my new theme I’ve been working on and everything else is kind of weirdly following suit. I’ll keep working on it…..

Warm-up Routine.

In response to several requests from friends and colleagues, I’ve finally got round to producing a downloadable version of the Trumpet warm-up routine that I use. It’s available to download here. It is my development of the routine from the excellent “Allen Vizzutti Trumpet Method, Book 1 (Technical Studies)” (ISBN: 0739019414) and also includes some snippets from other books. The original book is published by the Alfred Publishing Co.

I hope this proves useful to you as it has for me and my students.

Burglars with no taste!!

I’m writing this at the end of a very long day! I travelled back from Berlin to Leeds (via Newcastle!) to attend a meeting with an Insurance Claims Investigator.

A few weeks ago, while I was in Vienna, my house was burgled. It was the burglars 3rd attempt in as many weeks and the first time they actually got in. Luckily, they took very little but did get away with almost 200 CDs from my extensive Jazz collection. While this is obviously upsetting, I was heartened to observe (when I did get to check out what was gone) that the CDs by Brian Lynch, Eddie Henderson, Jim Rotondi and Ryan Kisor all remain. These are 4 of my favourite contemporary Trumpet players and their recordings tend to be a little hard to come by here in the UK. I considered this practically a miracle as the discs were alphabetized on shelves and the rest of B-O all got taken. Just goes to prove that the idiots who broke in have no taste!!

Fortunately, the Claims Investigator was satisfied with the claim I’d put in and actually made, what I consider to be, a fair settlement for the CDs – a comparatively unusual event in my experience. Thus, shortly, I shall start rebuilding my collection in earnest. The next few weeks and months should be fun!!

Plugins make you popular…

Had 5 messages regarding Show/Hide links already since posting about it yesterday. Unfortunately all from people having problems getting it to work. I don’t have time to answer today but I’ll sort some fuller documentation in the near future. I’ll also get the Commenting fixed asap so we can discuss it all properly.

Watch this space….

Aaargh! Commenting broken…

I’ve just noticed that Commenting seems to be broken on my site – not only can you not leave comments but the few previous comments there are, aren’t being displayed.

No time to fix it now but I’ll get on it asap. Full service will be resumed shortly…

Update:

Rest of the site might be broken but at least commenting works again. Now if only somebody would leave one…..
