Just the other day, I made a post about the continuing Redesign of this website.
Later that evening, I realised that I had some problems with IE5 (what’s new?) and so edited the original post.
The situation was compounded by my noticing today that the fixes I’d employed have broken the navigation menu for all Internet Explorer browsers on PC.
Please bear with me while I straighten it all out – I’m working on the principle that there has to be solution. It should be done by later tonight but right now I’ve got to go and play a show. Such are the ardours of being on tour…..
Update: Everything seems to now be working properly. Please report any problems.

While reading Eric Meyer’s site this afternoon, I ran across this post which just made me laugh.
N.B. For the uninitiated, "Target" is a budget superstore chain – apparently they’ll sell almost anything!!
Edit: The original "Target" page has now been taken down, however Amazon.com also offer the same product!!

Here is a riddle that we puzzled over for a couple of days this week. It was set by Andy Cuss, who had previously left it in his pad in the West End production of ‘Chicago’ for over a year before any of his deps came up with the right answer!
It takes this form:-
The _______ surgeon was _______ to perform the operation because he had _______.
The rules are simple. Each blank contains the same 7 letters in the same order. See if you can come up with the correct sequence that makes sense of the whole sentence.
First person to leave a comment with the correct answer can be safe in the knowledge that they are probably cleverer than me – as I said; it took me 2 days to figure it out.

I thought I should sit down and mention the kindness of some folks who’ve been good enough to let me play with them while I’ve been here in Munich.
First up is Rich Laughlin. Rich depped on the Rat Pack show for 5 weeks while Andy Cuss was away. He was about the best 2nd Tpt a Lead player could ask for!!! He was also kind enough to let me sit in with his Big Band – "Scat Max and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra" on Nov 1st here in Munich at the Unterfahrt club. We had a great time with a really good band!!!
My next Munich jazz excursion was with the Harald Rüschenbaum Jazz Orchestra. They let me sit in on Nov 8th and then booked me for their gig on the 15th! We had a really good play although having done Lead on 8 Rat Pack shows in the previous 6 days, my chops were somewhat sore. It was nice to have the resultant meeting with Dusko Goykovich though, who had shown up to see a couple of friends of his in the band. He is a truly nice guy and a WONDERFUL jazz trumpet player! This is certainly one aquaintance I would like to maintain!!
I should also give a shout to the other guys in Harald’s Trumpet section: Nemanja Jovanovic, Florian Jechlinger and Matthias Engel, and of course Harald Rüschenbaum himself. He’s a great drummer who’s been flying the flag for Big Band music in Southern Germany for 25 years. The band were also very helpful in making sure I got all the rehearsal comments translated into English. I got most of it as my German is improving but still greatly appreciated.
I shouldn’t close before mentioning the excellent Jam Session that occurs at the Unterfahrt every Sunday night. Myself and colleagues George Watts, Damien Cooke and Adam Bishop had a fine time playing there last week and we offer our thanks to the very supportive Rhythm Section we met and performed with. It’s truly always a highlight to find a good place to go and jam when you’re on a long tour like this.

A little redesign update:-
Although this design has been in place for a few weeks now, I’m still working to refine it.
Today, I reskinned the Calendar page and I’ve also messed with some of the CSS to add some rather nice rounded corners to some of the content boxes across the other pages. This effect, unfortunately only works in Mozilla browsers but that’s another good reason to get Firefox!!!
I also fixed the Comments page on this blog – syntax error in my anti-spam additions to the code. Sorry to any one who tried and was unable to leave a comment. It should now work.
Edit: Since posting, I also noticed some problems with IE5’s rendering of the pages – namely that it wasn’t forcing scrollbars anywhere so only portions of most pages were visible. Having tinkered further with it, things seem now to be fine. Any problems, please contact me and let me know.
